12-year-old Hailey Fuentes just wants to play football like her siblings and doesn’t understand why she can’t.
The 7th grader at Palacios Junior High School in Palacios, Texas had been playing the sport on the peewee team all through and until sixth grade. This year she was banned from the 7th-grade team. The school has acknowledged there is no hard-and-fast rule banning girls from playing football but each district makes their own decision on the matter. Legally the school does not have to allow her to play since they offer an alternative sport for girls, volleyball, at the same time.
